Aoun, Asmar discuss cost-of-living pressures
President Joseph Aoun received National Social Security Fund Board Chairman Bechara Asmar for talks on mounting cost-of-living pressures and measures to ease the burden on Lebanese households.
Speaking after the meeting, Asmar said he called for the formation of a ministerial economic cell to follow up on living conditions, the prompt convening of the Index Committee and an increase in the transport allowance.
He said Aoun expressed support for the demands, adding that discussions on forming the ministerial cell and launching practical measures to ease economic pressures are expected to move forward following Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s return from abroad.
