Rahi: The Truth Must Not Be Buried Under the Port Rubble
Maronite Patriarch Mar Beshara Boutros Al-Rahi said that “Lebanon is still struggling to breathe under the weight of crises, and officials are called upon to put the public interest above personal interests. The salvation of the country begins when politics shifts from a struggle for influence to an effort to serve the common good.”
In his sermon during the Mass marking the feast of Blessed Patriarch Estephan Douaihy in Ehden, Patriarch Al-Rahi added: “Lebanon’s peace stems from the peace of the South. Rebuilding homes helps keep people rooted in their land, and the state is the only legitimate authority for its citizens. We want peace to be a national decision that protects Lebanon and its people and keeps the flames of war away. We renew our support for the framework agreement to establish a just and comprehensive peace.”
He continued: “The memory of the Beirut port blast is a wound that has not healed. We say that we will not forget, nor will we accept for the truth to be buried beneath the rubble of the port.”
