PSP marks Lebanese Army Day, urges support for military amid mounting challenges

  • Sat August 1 2026 12:23 pm

The Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) said the 81st anniversary of the Lebanese Army comes at a time when the military is facing one of the most critical periods in its history, as it continues to carry out its duties despite limited resources and growing responsibilities.

In a statement, the party said the army remains engaged in securing the country’s borders, combating terrorism, completing its deployment in southern Lebanon, and facilitating the safe return of residents. It added that continued Israeli attacks and ceasefire violations have obstructed the army’s efforts and prevented the full implementation of deployment arrangements reached through international mediators.

The PSP also condemned Israel’s ongoing military operations and demolitions, describing them as repeated violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and international law.

Marking the occasion, the party paid tribute to the Lebanese Army’s fallen soldiers, saying their sacrifices will remain a symbol of national belonging.

The PSP stressed that the scale of the army’s responsibilities requires strengthening the institution’s capabilities and enhancing its ability to confront current challenges, while benefiting from cooperation with friendly and sister countries.

It also renewed its call for all Lebanese to rally behind the national military institution and reject campaigns that target or undermine it, warning that such efforts serve only plans to divide Lebanon and destabilize its internal security.
