President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, received Lebanon’s Central Bank Governor, Karim Souaid, at Baabda palace, with whom he discussed the country's monetary and financial situation, with emphasis on the importance of preserving monetary stability and strengthening close coordination between the Central Bank and the government on financial obligations, to ensure the proper functioning of public institutions.
The meeting also addressed Banque du Liban's continued implementation of mechanisms for repaying depositors in accordance with the applicable circulars, in line with the adopted approach of safeguarding depositors' rights within the existing legal and regulatory framework.
The Governor of the Banque du Liban also briefed the President on the progress achieved in the financial and banking reform process, particularly the draft law on bank restructuring, which is expected to complete its review and approval in the relevant parliamentary committees early next week, ahead of its final adoption by the Parliament in a plenary session.
