President of the Republic Joseph Aoun met Middle East Airlines Chairman and Director-General Mohammad El-Hout to discuss U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to allow American airlines to resume flights to Beirut after a 41-year suspension, as well as the measures required from the Lebanese side to implement the move.
El-Hout welcomed the U.S. decision and thanked Aoun for his efforts to revive the Beirut-New York route, which has been suspended for more than four decades. He said Middle East Airlines was capable of operating the direct route and would soon receive additional aircraft to strengthen its fleet.
He added that arrangements would be made in coordination with the U.S. side before the decision could be implemented by both Lebanon and the United States.
Aoun praised MEA’s role in connecting Lebanon with the world despite the difficult circumstances facing the country and the region, commending the company’s management and employees.
