Public Works Minister Fayez Rasamny on Wednesday was briefed by President of the Republic Joseph Aoun on the outcome of his visit to the United States, particularly U.S. President Donald Trump’s directives to American airlines to resume work on the air route between Lebanon and the United States.
Talks also addressed the development of Lebanon’s railway network and efforts to stimulate activity at the country’s ports.
Separately, MP Akram Chehayeb visited Aoun and congratulated him on his safe return from Washington.
Following the meeting, Chehayeb said he had been briefed on Aoun’s talks with U.S. officials, foremost among them Trump.
Chehayeb stressed the importance of Aoun’s statements during the visit affirming Lebanon’s right to preserve its sovereignty and protect its territory, as well as the need for Israeli forces to withdraw from the areas they occupy in southern Lebanon.
He also underscored the importance of safeguarding national unity and the Lebanese Army’s role in preserving and protecting it, while affirming that the Lebanese state must bear sole responsibility for security and that weapons must be exclusively under state control across the entire country.
