Lebanese Ambassador to Washington Nada Hamadeh Moawad hosted a dinner in honor of President Joseph Aoun and the accompanying Lebanese delegation, attended by several members of Congress and US administration officials.
During the dinner, President Aoun said: Lebanon cannot be safe or united unless it is one state with one army that protects all Lebanese without discrimination.
He stressed that the Lebanese experience deserves protection not only for Lebanon's sake, but for the region, because it is founded on the same principles on which your nation was built.
Aoun also said that Hezbollah's weapons can be removed if we are serious about what it truly requires: ending the occupation, enabling the Lebanese Army to assume full control, and implementing a state-led reconstruction program.
For her part, Ambassador Moawad told President Aoun: Your visit reflects our commitment to strengthening the historic ties between our two countries and advancing the Lebanese people's aspirations for sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, prosperity, and peace.
