Economy Ministry Raises Price of Standard White Bread Loaf Following Fuel Cost Increase
The Ministry of Economy and Trade announced that it has raised the price of the standard white Lebanese bread loaf, citing higher production costs driven by an increase in fuel prices.
Under the ministry’s pricing mechanism, which takes into account actual production costs, the price of a medium-sized loaf sold at bakeries has been increased by 5,000 LBP to 75,000 LBP.
The ministry said it understands the negative impact of the decision on consumers, but stressed that the increase is necessary to ensure the continued production and availability of bread while reflecting actual production costs.
It added that prices would be reviewed and reduced once production costs decline, in line with the same pricing mechanism.
The ministry also said its Consumer Protection Directorate will continue inspections of markets and bakeries to ensure compliance with the official price and address violations in order to protect consumers and maintain orderly market conditions.
