MoPWT assess safety measures after fatal Keserwan road crash
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport said it was following up on the aftermath of the fatal traffic accident on the main Keserwan highway at the Wata El Joz junction, which claimed several lives, extending its condolences to the victims’ families.
The ministry said Minister Fayez Rasamny immediately held a series of calls following the accident and dispatched Director General of Roads and Buildings Pierre Maalouf to the site. Maalouf conducted an on-site inspection alongside the heads of the municipalities of Faytroun and Wata El Joz, as well as representatives of the Keserwan Municipalities Union, to assess the condition of the road, identify risks and determine urgent measures.
A technical meeting will be held at the ministry on Thursday, bringing together officials from the Directorate General of Roads and Buildings, the municipalities of Faytroun and Wata El Joz, and the Keserwan Municipalities Union to review available maps and engineering studies and determine the most appropriate technical solution for the site to improve road safety and help prevent similar accidents.
The ministry said the matter is being treated as a top priority in coordination with local authorities and relevant agencies, adding that the necessary technical and administrative procedures will begin in light of the field inspection and engineering assessments to reach a sustainable solution that enhances road safety.
The ministry reiterated its condolences to the victims’ families, stressing that protecting lives remains its foremost priority and that it will continue to follow the case until the required remedial measures are implemented.
