The following statement was issued by the Media Office of the Presidency of the Republic:
President of the Republic General Joseph Aoun held bilateral talks at the White House with US President Donald J. Trump, following an official invitation from the American president for a working visit.
The meeting reaffirmed the historic partnership between Lebanon and the United States and focused on the security, political, and economic priorities needed to strengthen Lebanon’s stability and prosperity.
President Aoun stressed the urgent need for a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, emphasizing that this constitutes a key step toward consolidating stability, enabling the Lebanese state to exercise full sovereignty through its own forces alone, and moving forward with the implementation of the joint trilateral framework.
President Aoun also briefed President Trump on the devastating consequences of the recent war on Lebanon, including the human and economic losses and the severe damage inflicted on infrastructure across Lebanese territory.
The two sides discussed strengthening US support for the Lebanese Army, expanding cooperation between the two countries across all fields, supporting economic recovery and reconstruction efforts, and encouraging US investments in Lebanon.
President Aoun also highlighted the importance of resuming direct flights between Lebanon and the United States.
The talks concluded with an agreement to continue coordination on implementing the points agreed upon and to follow up on joint initiatives in the security, defense, and economic fields, in a way that strengthens Lebanon’s stability and opens new horizons for cooperation between the two countries.
