Salam and Al-Sabah discuss expanding Kuwaiti investments in Lebanon
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met with Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, in the presence of Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi.
The meeting focused on the historic and fraternal ties between Lebanon and Kuwait and ways to strengthen them, as well as the shared challenges facing the two countries, particularly given the similarities between their political systems, which are based on pluralism and parliamentary life.
The talks also addressed the latest regional developments, with both sides stressing the importance of working to de-escalate tensions, preserve regional security and stability, and prevent further confrontations. Salam renewed his condemnation of the attacks targeting Kuwait, reaffirming Lebanon’s solidarity with the country and its support for it.
For his part, the Kuwaiti Crown Prince reiterated his country’s support for Lebanon and expressed Kuwait’s desire to expand its investments in the country. Salam thanked Kuwait for its continued support for Lebanon, particularly in the energy sector, and welcomed its expected contribution to securing fuel for Électricité du Liban, while expressing appreciation for Kuwait keeping Lebanon among its priorities despite the difficulties that regional conditions have imposed on exports and shipping operations.
Salam outlined investment opportunities available in Lebanon, particularly in infrastructure, transportation, energy and regional connectivity projects, while the Kuwaiti Crown Prince expressed his country’s readiness to enhance cooperation and investment in these areas.
Salam also affirmed that Lebanese ports are ready to help facilitate import and export flows to and from Kuwait. The two sides agreed to work toward expanding trade and investment between the two countries and to hold a Lebanese-Kuwaiti economic and investment forum as soon as possible.
