Mahfoud: Lebanon does not need ministers who are afraid to stand by their positions
Head of the Change Movement, Lawyer Elie Mahfoud wrote on his X account: Cabinet reshuffles are neither a flaw, nor a retreat, nor an admission of failure. The real flaw is keeping people in decision-making positions after they have proven incapable of making decisions. Some ministers have become unnecessary; a presence without impact, positions without courage, and performance that fails to keep pace with a country facing one of its most critical periods.
A ministerial post is not a reward for being a good person, nor a seat handed out as a favor. A ministerial post is a trust, a responsibility and a matter of competence. Anyone entrusted with a country’s affairs must have the ability to confront challenges, take the initiative and make sovereign decisions when sovereignty is at stake.
To those who say, So-and-so is a good person, I say: Excellent, I would marry him to my sister, but I would not put the country’s affairs in his hands simply because he is a good person. Lebanon does not need ministers who are afraid to stand by their positions. It needs ministers who understand that, at certain moments, silence is not neutrality but inability to act.
Open the door to people with the ability to deliver, make decisions and keep pace with developments. A ministerial post is not for someone who merely fills a seat, but for someone who takes responsibility.
