Raggi and German counterpart discuss continued international presence in Southern Lebanon
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi met with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, with discussions focusing on the post-UNIFIL phase.
Raggi conveyed the Lebanese government’s position that an international presence must continue in southern Lebanon, stressing the importance of supporting the Lebanese Army to enable it to carry out its mission of ensuring that only the legitimate security forces exercise control over the entire country.
Wadephul, for his part, praised the courage of the Lebanese government in the decisions it has taken to ensure that weapons are held exclusively by the state, and expressed hope that “it will continue along this path until it is fully completed.
