Bisat at Lebanese-Syrian Investment Forum 2026
Representing President of the Republic General Joseph Aoun at the 2026 Lebanese-Syrian Investment Forum held in Beirut, Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Bisat emphasized that relations between Lebanon and Syria have been marked by numerous ties and shared experiences, stressing the need to draw lessons from this history and work toward transforming geography from an imposed reality into an opportunity.
Minister Bisat said that Lebanon and Syria have an opportunity to establish clearer and more balanced relations between the two countries, stressing the need to move from intentions to institutions, and then to implementation.
For his part, Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Mohammad Nidal Shaar stated that economic integration between the two countries does not mean that either country must relinquish its advantages, noting that an economically stable Lebanon is also in Syria’s interest. Minister Al-Shaar said, Syria and Lebanon do not need to rediscover each other. What they need is to redefine their economic relations on clearer and more balanced foundations, within a framework of full respect for the sovereignty of both countries, their independent decision-making, and their national interests.
Al-Shaar added: We have an opportunity to make the economy a platform for shared interests and stability between Lebanon and Syria.
For his part, Syrian Chargé d’Affaires to Lebanon, Iyad Al-Hazzah, said, today’s meeting aims to build bridges of shared interests and shift from a geography of proximity to a geography of partnership.
Hazzah also stressed that investment partnership between our two countries is an existential necessity, and that integrating Lebanon’s services and logistics capabilities with Syria’s vast potential is the true engine for comprehensive economic development.
