Tripoli public sector offices close amid strike
Public sector offices in Tripoli were closed in response to a strike call by the Public Sector Employees Association for Wednesday and Thursday, with administrative centers, particularly those at the Tripoli Serail, shutting their doors.
Employees who reported to work refused to provide services to citizens, reiterating their demands and highlighting the dire conditions they are facing.
Head of Federation of Trade Unions and Employees in the North Chadi Al-Sayed backed the demands and strike action by public administration employees, saying: We expected such a stance, which reflects the pain and the difficult and unfortunate reality that employees have been forced to endure. From here, we call for the swift fulfillment of public sector demands, particularly transportation allowances and a review of the basic salary.
He added: The temporary fixes being offered will not ease the painful problems affecting state institutions and the living standards of their employees. The state must therefore stop trying to address these issues with $50 here or there, as this amounts to mocking and ridiculing employees’ demands.
Public sector employees were also urged to participate in the protest action in large numbers.
