Berri reviews general situation with Ain el-Tineh visitors
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, received a delegation from the Bekaa: Development and Belonging Gathering, at the Second Presidency headquarters in Ain el-Tineh.
The delegation comprised Mufti of Zahle and the Bekaa, Dr. Sheikh Ali Al-Ghazawi; Mufti of Baalbek-Hermel, Sheikh Bakr Al-Rifai; Archimandrite Elie Bou Chaaya; Judge Dr. Sheikh Daniel Saeed; former Deputy Speaker Elie Ferzli; MPs Hassan Mourad, Kabalan Kabalan, Wael Abou Faour, and Salim Aoun; former MPs Jamal Jarrah, Assem Araji, Elie Marouni, and Mohammad Al-Qaraawi; Head of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture of Zahle and the Bekaa, Mounir Al-Tini; Sheikh Ziad Haifa; and Dr. Sheikh Nader Jumaa.
The delegation briefed Speaker Berri on the objectives of the Bekaa Development Gathering, as well as the discussions and outcomes of the conference held at Al-Azhar Al-Bekaa, and presented him with the recommendations that emerged from it.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss a number of developmental issues concerning Lebanon in general and the Bekaa in particular, foremost among them the Dahr Al-Baidar tunnel and its importance in strengthening connectivity between the Bekaa and other parts of the country. The discussion also touched on the importance of completing the Arab Highway and its role in stimulating economic activity, in addition to other national issues.
Separately, Speaker Berri received the President of the African Continental Council of the World Lebanese Cultural Union (WLCU), Consul Hassan Yahfoufi, and Council members, in the presence of Ali Hayek, head of the Central Foreign Relations Office of Amal Movement.
The meeting addressed general developments, particularly the situation of Lebanese expatriate communities, especially those in Africa, and the role of the Lebanese diaspora at the current stage. Discussions also covered the African Continental Council’s work programs and preparations for its general conference, scheduled to be held next December.
