After Mkalles floods and landslides, Kanaan takes legal action
After floods and landslides hit the area several days ago, MP Ibrahim Kanaan, head of Parliament’s Finance and Budget Committee, filed a complaint and legal notification with Financial Public Prosecutor Judge Maher Chaito, registered under No. 2180, concerning rehabilitation works on the main road in Mkalles against the contractor in charge of the project since 2025 and anyone else found responsible by the investigation.
Kanaan called for a technical, financial and administrative investigation to verify whether the completed works comply with the terms and specifications of the contract, particularly after rain and floods caused soil to wash onto the road and blocked parts of it, disrupting traffic and posing a risk to public safety.
He also called for an engineering expert to inspect the site, audit the funds paid and the quantities of work completed, assess the performance of the supervising authorities, and take legal action against anyone found responsible for negligence, waste or damage to public funds.
Kanaan stressed that the complaint does not target any particular individual, but aims to safeguard public funds, the public interest and citizens’ safety.
