Aoun receives UAE invitation to UN water conference
President of the Republic Joseph Aoun received a message from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan inviting him to attend the 2026 United Nations Water Conference, jointly hosted by the United Arab Emirates and Senegal.
UAE Ambassador to Lebanon Fahad Salem Saeed Al Kaabi delivered the invitation for the conference, scheduled for December 8–10 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
The conference will focus on accelerating implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6 on ensuring access to water and sanitation for all and their sustainable management. It will bring together heads of state and government, leaders of international organizations and multilateral development banks, among others.
Separately, Aoun received Information Minister Paul Morcos, who announced after the meeting that the president had signed the new media law recently approved by Parliament.
Morcos said he and Aoun discussed possible additional amendments aimed at bringing the law to an optimal form, adding that he was coordinating with parliamentary blocs on further improvements, which would ultimately require Parliament’s approval.
The meeting also covered the work of the Ministry of Information, Télé Liban and other public media outlets.
Elsewhere, acting on Aoun’s instructions, the Presidency’s Directorate General organized a blood donation campaign in cooperation with the Lebanese Red Cross.
Aoun participated alongside Presidency employees and staff. Lebanese Red Cross President Antoine Zoghbi said the initiative sought to promote a culture of life, love and openness to everyone, stressing the importance of blood donation for all Lebanese.
