Raggi Heads to Washington as Talk of a Second Aoun Visit Emerges
Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi is expected to head a Lebanese diplomatic delegation to Washington, with Lebanon’s Ambassador to the United States Nada Maalouf Hamadeh and members of the negotiating delegation also expected to take part, according to Akhbar Al Youm's diplomatic sources.
The visit, which is being discussed separately from the ongoing Lebanese-Israeli negotiations in Rome, would aim to follow up on the summit meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and would also be linked to U.S. arrangements for the region.
The sources also indicated that Aoun could make a second visit to the White House next fall to take part in an expanded meeting that could also include Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman or Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, as preparations get underway for the next phase, which is expected to be framed around “peace in the Middle East.”
