Aoun meets Hasbani
President Joseph Aoun held separate meetings with MPs Ghassan Hasbani and Ahmad Al-Khair, with discussions covering state sovereignty, the general situation in the country, the president’s visit to Rome and the recently approved general amnesty law.
Following his meeting with Aoun, Hasbani said the legitimate state alone represents the Lebanese people in all forums, and no entity outside the state has the legitimacy to speak on Lebanon’s behalf.
He stressed that the state’s strength derives from the legitimacy of the people and its institutions, and from its ability to cooperate to achieve sovereignty, adding that Aoun was playing an active role in strengthening the state domestically and internationally.
Aoun also reviewed with Al-Khair the general situation and the outcome of his visit to Rome, including talks on the framework agreement and how those discussions could help advance understandings and efforts to consolidate stability in Lebanon.
The meeting also addressed the general amnesty law approved by Parliament.
Al-Khair raised with Aoun the case of Khaled Mallas, a young Lebanese man abducted in Australia, asking the president to follow up on the circumstances of the case. Aoun pledged to contact the Australian ambassador to Lebanon and the Lebanese ambassador to Australia to pursue the matter and help clarify the circumstances.
