Choucair: General Security a pillar of the state
General Security Director General Major General Hassan Choucair said the institution’s anniversary was not merely an annual commemoration but a national occasion reflecting the history of an agency closely linked to the Lebanese state.
He said General Security’s primary mission was to safeguard national security and stability while serving citizens and protecting their dignity and rights.
True security is not based on force alone, but on law, discipline and respect, and on the ability to anticipate risks and coordinate among state institutions, Choucair said.
He highlighted efforts to strengthen preparedness against terrorism, organized crime, smuggling networks, cross-border crime, cyber threats and irregular migration.
Choucair also stressed the directorate’s push toward administrative modernization, greater reliance on technology and digital transformation to provide faster, more transparent and efficient services.
He said Lebanon’s exceptional political, economic, security and social challenges could not be confronted by any single institution, emphasizing that protecting the country required unity among state institutions and close coordination between military and security agencies.
State strength lies in its institutions, and state authority is not built through slogans, but through the application of law and justice, institutional work and citizens’ confidence in their institutions, he said.
