Morcos: PM reaffirms readiness to leverage all options for economic recovery
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam chaired the daily ministerial meeting at the Grand Serail.
Following the session, Information Minister, Attorney Paul Morcos, announced the outcomes of the meeting, saying: At the beginning of the meeting, and regarding his visit to Iraq, the Prime Minister opened his remarks by noting that the government is always ready to make use of all options available at any given moment to achieve the goals of economic recovery, while benefiting from all regional and international support available for the path of recovery and state-building.
Minister Morcos added: In this context, Premier Salam, upon his return from Iraq, contacted Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Al-Shaibani, stressing the importance of strengthening regional interconnectedness for the mutual benefit of all.
The Minister continued: The meeting included a discussion on connecting Lebanon, as a result of this visit, to the Basra-Tripoli pipeline, given the mutual benefits and Lebanon’s significant storage capacity, along with plans to establish a new refinery, all in light of Iraq’s determination to increase oil production.
He added, Discussions also touched on forming a joint Lebanese-Iraqi technical committee to examine these issues and move forward with them, particularly regarding cooperation between the two countries on the special economic zone. He also pointed to a government plan to rehabilitate the storage tanks to facilitate the overland transport of oil, similar to the port of Baniyas.
Morcos added, A second issue that was discussed was enhancing electricity supply in cooperation with the Turkish authorities.
The third issue discussed was the activation of internet services, while the final one focused on consumer protection, along with various other matters, the Minister said.
