From Washington to the South: Aoun and Salam Discuss Lebanon’s Next Steps
President of the Republic Joseph Aoun received Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at Baabda Palace, with whom he discussed the general situation in the country in light of recent developments.
President Aoun briefed the Prime Minister on the outcomes of his visit to the United States and his meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as well as the readiness expressed by U.S. officials to support the Lebanese Army and assist Lebanon across various fields, in addition to the United States’ commitment to implementing the framework formula agreed upon in the Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations in Washington, in light of Lebanon’s position stressing the need to complete the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese villages and towns up to the southern border.
For his part, Premier Salam briefed President Aoun on his visit to the south, particularly the town of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh following the Israeli withdrawal from it. Salam said: I affirmed that we stand with our people in the south and by their side, and that the state is determined to meet their needs in a way that reinforces their presence on their land and protects their livelihoods.
The discussions also covered Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s planned visit to Iraq next Sunday, where he is expected to meet with his Iraqi counterpart, Prime Minister Ali Faleh Kazem Al-Zaidi, to discuss strengthening Lebanese-Iraqi relations across all fields.
