Berri, Kanaan discuss reforms and political developments after Aoun’s US visit
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri called President Joseph Aoun to congratulate him on his safe return from Washington.
Berri also met Parliament’s Finance and Budget Committee chairman Ibrahim Kanaan at the second presidency headquarters in Ain al-Tineh, with talks covering political developments, legislative affairs and the committee’s work.
Kanaan said discussions focused on the suffering of Lebanese citizens, particularly in the south, and on hopes for an end to the war. He said Aoun’s Washington visit aimed to secure an Israeli withdrawal, consolidate Lebanese sovereignty and strengthen support for the Lebanese army.
The meeting also addressed progress on banking reform legislation and other draft laws. Kanaan stressed that reforms must safeguard citizens’ and depositors’ rights, saying Lebanon’s recovery depended on restoring public confidence in the state, economy and banking sector.
Berri separately received Justice Minister Adel Nassar for talks on political, judicial and legislative affairs, as well as judges Souheir Harakeh and Nada Dakroub.
