Jet Ski Users Urged to Follow Safety Guidelines
The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces (ISF) – Public Relations Division issued the following statement:
During the summer season, vacationers (citizens and tourists) turn to various tourist destinations to enjoy a range of summer activities, including, but not limited to, riding jet skis. The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces has noted that, in many cases, these watercraft are being used randomly, from locations and areas that are either not designated for this purpose or are not supervised by qualified personnel, which may lead to accidents and risks for jet ski users and other beachgoers.
Therefore, the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces is issuing the following conditions and safety guidelines to owners of private swimming pools and jet ski enthusiasts:
- Launching or operating jet skis is prohibited except through designated marine lanes specifically allocated for this purpose, clearly marked with the necessary buoys and maritime signs.
- Jet skis are strictly prohibited from launching from swimming beaches or from any unlicensed or unsupervised locations.
- All resorts, marine clubs, and jet ski rental stations must establish safe and clearly designated launch and docking points in advance.
- Jet skis are prohibited from operating within swimming areas or near the shoreline, and must maintain a minimum safety distance of 200 meters from the beach.
- Speed limits within marine lanes and when entering or exiting must be strictly observed for safety reasons. Dangerous maneuvers or stunts near the shore are prohibited.
- Jet ski users must wear mandatory life jackets and comply with all maritime safety requirements.
- Jet skis may not be operated by minors or unqualified individuals. Rental operators are prohibited from renting them without verifying the user’s eligibility and providing the necessary safety instructions.
Jet ski rental stations and centers must:
- Have a qualified safety supervisor present.
- Provide first-aid equipment.
- Record the entry and exit movements of jet skis.
- Set operating hours in a way that does not endanger public safety.
- Fully comply with the conditions set by the General Directorate of Land and Maritime Transport and other relevant authorities.
In its commitment to public safety, the General Directorate calls on both those responsible for this activity and enthusiasts to act responsibly and fully comply with the above-mentioned conditions and guidelines, in order to ensure their own safety and the safety of others.
