Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi participated in the 165th session of the League of Arab States Ministerial Council in Amman, where he urged Arab states to support the independence of Lebanon’s negotiating track from the broader US-Iran process.
Addressing a closed consultative meeting, Raggi stressed that Lebanon must be an active participant in any regional framework shaping the future of the Middle East and that decisions concerning Lebanon should be made exclusively by the Lebanese state.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Raggi held talks with EU High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas. Discussions focused on negotiations with Israel, the future of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, government reforms and the issue of Syrian refugees.
Kallas reaffirmed the European Union’s support for Lebanon’s government, sovereignty and state institutions.
