Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny chaired a meeting with Director General of Urban Planning Ali Ramadan, Beirut Order of Engineers President Fadi Hanna and Tripoli Order of Engineers President Chawki Fattal to discuss reforms aimed at modernizing Lebanon’s construction sector and strengthening public safety.
The meeting reviewed proposed amendments to Decree No. 7964/2012 on building safety standards, designed to enhance structural resilience against earthquakes, fires and other safety risks in line with updated engineering standards. Rasamny approved moving forward with the legal procedures required for the decree’s adoption.
Participants also examined a joint digitalization project between the Directorate General of Urban Planning and the Orders of Engineers in Beirut and Tripoli. The initiative will establish a unified digital platform and database providing engineers with access to master plans, zoning regulations and urban planning documents across Lebanon.
Officials said the project will preserve the Directorate’s extensive planning archive, improve transparency and administrative efficiency, support sustainable urban development and facilitate reconstruction planning, particularly in areas affected by the war in southern Lebanon.
Rasamny praised the cooperation between the public administration and the engineering profession, describing the initiative as a model partnership that advances digital transformation, modernizes public services and supports sustainable development nationwide.
