Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi said there is no realistic distinction between Hezbollah’s political and military wings, describing the group as a single entity and an armed, non-state actor operating in Lebanon.
In an interview with French channel LCI, Raggi paid tribute to French peacekeepers serving with UNIFIL, honoring those who lost their lives during their mission in southern Lebanon and stressing that Lebanon would not forget their sacrifices.
Raggi also criticized Iran’s regional role, accusing its leadership of fueling instability across the Middle East.
On Lebanon, Raggi said the country has suffered decades of conflict and argued that military options have failed to provide solutions. He praised President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam for pursuing direct negotiations aimed at securing a ceasefire and enabling displaced residents to return home.
Regarding peace with Israel, Raggi said lasting peace requires appropriate conditions, foremost among them an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon and an end to ongoing hostilities.
