Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi wrote on his X account: I held productive talks with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, during which we discussed various aspects of the situation in Lebanon and ways to strengthen cooperation with the European Union.
During the joint press conference, I expressed my appreciation for the European Union’s continued support for Lebanon and welcomed the decision to establish a European mission under the Common Security and Defence Policy. I stressed the importance of EU support for Lebanon as it implements its sovereign decision to ensure that weapons are held exclusively by the state and works to end the Israeli occupation of Lebanese territory.
For her part, Kallas confirmed that the European mission will train the Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces, reaffirming the European Union’s support for the framework agreement and stressing the need to extend the authority of the Lebanese state over all its territory and move forward with the disarmament of Hezbollah.
