Raggi discusses UNIFIL mandate extension, receives credentials copies from Egypt, Iraq Ambassadors

  • Thu October 8 2026 2:18 pm

Minister of Foreign Affairs Youssef Raggi received a parliamentary delegation comprising MPs Melhem Khalaf, Najat Saliba Aoun, Adnan Traboulsi, Ibrahim Mneimneh, Hagop Pakradounian, and Haidar Nasser.

The delegation handed Minister Raggi a parliamentary memorandum signed by 86 MPs, calling for a reconsideration of UN Resolution 2790, which stipulates the termination of the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL), arguing that its implementation is impossible in light of the continued Israeli occupation.

Minister Raggi outlined the efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants to extend UNIFIL's mandate, as well as the ongoing diplomatic endeavors to find an alternative formula.

Separately, Minister Raggi met with the new Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon, Tamim Hani Abdel Moneim Khallaf, who presented him with a copy of his credentials. Raggi wished the new Ambassador success in his new duties.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the general situation in Lebanon and the region, as well as the importance of strengthening bilateral relations.

The Foreign Minister also received the newly appointed Iraqi Ambassador to Lebanon, Mohammed Reza Al-Husseini, who presented him with a copy of his credentials. Raggi wished the new ambassador success in his duties, reaffirming Lebanon’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
