Washington Dismisses Reports of Iranian Money Reaching Hezbollah

  • Thu October 8 2026 10:07 am

U.S. State Department Spokesman Tommy Pigott said Hezbollah has every reason to promote such claims through anonymous sources, dismissing reports of Iranian financial support for the group.

“Hezbollah can claim whatever it wants, but the money is not there,” Pigott said.

He said Hezbollah “has been decimated” and has caused suffering for hundreds of thousands of innocent Lebanese, adding that the group is now trying to save face by promoting what he described as false reports of cash flowing in from Iran.

“Iran’s oil exports are blockaded, its currency is in freefall, and the regime is looking over its shoulder,” Pigott said.

He added that the United States would continue to target Hezbollah’s finances through sanctions while supporting the Lebanese government’s ability to rebuild the south.

“Hezbollah has brought nothing but misery to Lebanon and the people it claims to represent,” Pigott said. “It started a war on behalf of Tehran, causing billions of dollars in damage. Even if this consolation payment were real, it would not be enough.”

“Under the Trump administration, Hezbollah will never recover or rebuild its terrorist infrastructure,” he added.
