Rahi: The State Needs “Patience and Perseverance”
Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Rahi said that the patience Lebanon needs does not mean passively waiting or surrendering to crises, but rather remaining steadfast in pursuit of a goal and continuing to work and persevere until results are achieved.
In his Sunday homily, Rahi said Lebanon needs this kind of patience, patience accompanied by resolve, dialogue and meaningful action, in order to build a state capable of fully assuming its responsibilities.
He said the state needs “long-term commitment” to strengthen internal unity, bridge differences and restore Lebanese citizens’ confidence in their institutions, stressing that unity cannot be imposed by a decision or achieved in a single session, but requires dialogue, a shared will and putting the national interest ahead of personal considerations.
Rahi stressed that banking reform and the restoration of Lebanese citizens’ rights must not remain postponed, noting that people have waited long enough and have the right to see reforms that restore confidence and safeguard their rights.
