Roumieh Strike Enters Its 14th Day With 39 Critical Cases!
More than 400 inmates at Roumieh Prison have continued their hunger and medication strike for the 14th consecutive day, protesting the suspension of the general amnesty law.
A spokesperson for the inmates said the health condition of those participating in the strike has deteriorated further over the past few hours, with the number of critical cases rising to 39, including two inmates who were taken to hospitals in Beirut.
Prisoner A.A. was taken to hospital for the second time within 24 hours due to his continued deterioration. Tensions also erupted among the inmates after the prisoner was transported in a vehicle that was not medically equipped, due to the unavailability of an ambulance.
In a humanitarian appeal, the striking inmates addressed the media through a banner they raised, saying: An appeal to the free press: Prisons are a humanitarian issue, and death does not distinguish between a prisoner’s sect. Do not leave us alone in the face of political beasts. Their electoral interests are killing our last hope. You are our voice.
