Hezbollah MP slams reliance on US, calls for dialogue with Hezbollah
Baalbek-Hermel parliamentary bloc head and Loyalty to the Resistance MP Hussein Hajj Hassan said Lebanon was facing major regional shifts and a broader confrontation, accusing those relying on US support of benefiting from what he described as Israeli actions backed by Washington.
Speaking at a Hezbollah memorial ceremony, Hajj Hassan said the central confrontation was against US hegemony and Israeli expansion in the region. He argued that developments in Syria demonstrated the limits of relying on negotiations alone, citing Israeli officials’ stated positions on territory there.
Hajj Hassan called on political forces in Lebanon to return to what he described as genuine sovereignty, national unity and internal dialogue, and urged engagement with Hezbollah rather than reliance on the United States.
He also questioned what the government and state institutions had done since the previous war to facilitate the return of displaced residents, reconstruction, housing assistance and support for families of those killed, wounded or detained.
Hajj Hassan said his remarks were intended as political accountability rather than an attack, arguing that state institutions should address the needs of communities affected by Israeli military operations through reconstruction, repairs and financial support, rather than through rhetoric alone.
