Salam to Pezeshkian: Lebanon Will Not Be an Arena for Regional Conflicts
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said he told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that Lebanon has paid a heavy price in terms of its security, stability and economy and does not want to be drawn into regional conflicts or used as a venue for settling regional disputes.
Salam said Lebanon is seeking to “turn a new page” in its relationship with Iran and establish a healthy state-to-state relationship based on mutual respect for sovereignty and independence, non-interference in each other’s affairs, and shared interests.
He also stressed that Lebanon’s priority is to see Israel fully withdraw from Lebanese territory and halt its attacks, while the Lebanese state moves forward with extending its authority across the country and ensuring that all weapons are held exclusively by the state.
