Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny received at his office a delegation from the Syrian Arab Republic’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, headed by its President, Mr. Omar Hisham Al-Husari. The meeting was attended by Chairman of Lebanon’s General Directorate of Civil Aviation, Captain Mohammad Abdulaziz Aziz; the Minister’s Legal Adviser, Attorney Hadi Moussa; Chief Executive Officer of MEAS, Mohammad Shatila; and Chairman and President of Sky Lounge Services, Mr. Ziad Monla.
The Syrian delegation included Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Beirut, Iyad Al-Hazzaa; Omar Hisham Al-Husari, President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport; Abdul Bari Mohammad Al-Sabah, Assistant President for Planning and Institutional Efficiency Affairs; Amjad Mohammad Hisham Nakhal, Assistant President for Support and Implementation Affairs; Sameh Mohammad Arabi, Assistant President for Operational Affairs; Abdul Hamid Abdul Majid Tahan, Director of the Government Communications Directorate; Marina Mohammad Ammar, Director of Aviation Security; Mousa Abdul Karim Arabi, Director of Aviation Safety; Alaaeddine Hussein Al-Rifai, Director of Air Navigation Services; Raafat Tajeddine Kanno, Director of the International Cooperation Office; and Mustafa Mohammad Khairallah, Head of the Media Department.
Discussions focused on avenues for strengthening Lebanese-Syrian cooperation in the fields of transport and civil aviation, as well as a number of issues of mutual interest, particularly those related to air navigation and associated services.
The meeting also addressed developments concerning air traffic transiting Syrian and Lebanese airspace and explored mechanisms for bilateral cooperation aimed at achieving optimal operational outcomes.
During the meeting, Minister Rasamny outlined the Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s key priorities and ongoing projects, stressing that the Ministry’s objectives are fully aligned with the vision and policy directions of His Excellency the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister. He highlighted several strategic initiatives, including the modernization of border crossings—most notably the upgrade of the Masnaa Border Crossing—as well as other major infrastructure projects, including the proposed railway link between the Port of Tripoli and the Abboudieh border area.
Minister Rasamny underscored the importance of further strengthening cooperation between the two countries, noting that several agreements remain under discussion in the fields of air navigation, land transport, and other areas of shared interest.
The discussions also touched on President René Moawad Airport – Kleyat, where participants reviewed its strategic importance and the implementation phases of its development project, in addition to examining several issues related to passenger movement through border crossings.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining close communication and coordination among the relevant authorities in the two countries and of advancing joint transport and civil aviation files in a manner that serves their mutual interests.
