President Joseph Aoun chaired a meeting at Baabda Palace attended by Army Commander Rodolphe Haykal, head of the negotiating delegation former Ambassador Simon Karam, members of the military negotiating team, and the advisory team accompanying the talks.
The meeting reviewed recent developments in Lebanon and the region, including the signing of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding and preparations for the next round of Lebanese-US-Israeli negotiations in Washington on June 23, 24, and 25.
President Aoun provided the negotiating delegation with directives based on Lebanon’s core positions, namely a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territory, the deployment of the Lebanese Army up to the international border, the return of Lebanese detainees, and the launch of reconstruction efforts.
