Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received at the Second Presidency headquarters in Ain el-Tineh, the Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, General Diodato Abagnara, in the presence of the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Lebanon, Imran Riza.
The discussion addressed developments in the south, particularly within the area of operations of the United Nations forces and their multi-faceted role, including humanitarian and economic responsibilities, as well as their support for the Lebanese Army in its missions in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701. The talks also touched on the future presence of UNIFIL in the south and the options under consideration.
Berri stressed the importance of maintaining the UNIFIL force in accordance with its mandate under Resolution 1701 until the resolution is implemented and of supporting the Lebanese army in its national mission of deploying to the international border once the Israeli war on Lebanon ends and Israeli occupation forces withdraw beyond Lebanon’s internationally recognized borders.
On the other hand, Berri received in Ain el-Tineh MP Faisal Karami, with whom he discussed the general situation, as well as the latest political and field updates, in addition to national and legislative affairs.
Berri also received the head of the Parliamentary Health Committee and Democratic Gathering MP Bilal Abdallah, with discussions focusing on the current political situation, especially after the US-Iran agreement and its implications for Lebanon.
This afternoon, Berri received Minister of National Education and Higher Education Rima Karami, with discussions focusing on the general situation in the country, especially the educational situation and the issue of official examinations.
