Former deputy prime minister Ghassan Hasbani and MP Fouad Makhzoumi met with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam to discuss several national issues, focusing on shelters established for displaced people on Beirut’s public waterfront properties.
Makhzoumi stressed support for displaced families while rejecting any attempt to turn temporary wartime measures into a permanent reality outside state authority and urban planning regulations.
Talks also addressed keeping Beirut weapon-free and fully under state authority, as well as the proposed general amnesty law, which the MPs said should be handled under unified justice standards.
Hasbani stressed the need for a rapid plan to relocate displaced residents from Beirut’s seafront to properly equipped shelters outside the city center, warning against permanent settlement on public property.
Both MPs praised ongoing negotiations aimed at securing a permanent ceasefire and reconstruction.
