President of the Republic Joseph Aoun received the European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Ms. Hadja Lahbib.
Aoun stated that “the support provided by European Union countries to Lebanon must be directed towards pressuring Israel to enforce a ceasefire and to refrain from demolishing and bulldozing homes in the villages it occupies in southern Lebanon, as well as from targeting paramedics, journalists, and civil defense personnel.”
He added: “Lebanon remains committed to the ceasefire and to the cessation of all military operations, in order to launch negotiations aimed at ending the current unstable situation in the south, paving the way for the redeployment of the army up to the international borders, the release of Lebanese prisoners, and the return of displaced people to their towns and villages.”
He considered that “the significant human losses resulting from Israeli attacks on Lebanon have caused the need to assist displaced persons to increase day by day. Therefore, Lebanon appeals to brotherly and friendly countries to provide urgent humanitarian and developmental aid.”
He affirmed that “Lebanon thanks the European Union for its continuous response to its needs and for the commitment of its member states to Lebanon’s full sovereignty over all its territory.”
He concluded: “The Lebanese are united in the face of current challenges, are committed to their unity, and collectively confront any attempt to sow discord among them.”
