MP Charbel Massaad said the death of inmate Hussein al-Rammal in Roumieh prison was not a natural death but a full-fledged crime resulting from injustice and neglect.
In a statement, Massaad said al-Rammal had spent 22 months in prison without trial over a bounced cheque despite being a father of four, while those responsible for financial collapse and the loss of depositors’ funds remained free.
He questioned the state’s commitment to justice, accusing authorities of targeting vulnerable citizens while protecting major offenders.
Massaad said the state, judiciary and political and financial system bore full responsibility, arguing that an entire system that lost its humanity was behind al-Rammal’s death.
