Prime Minister Nawaf Salam received a delegation from the Akkar municipal federations, where discussions focused on development needs in one of Lebanon’s most deprived regions.
Speaking after the meeting, Joumeh municipal federation head Adnan Melhem said Salam acknowledged Akkar as a prime example of marginalization and pledged progress on several key projects.
Melhem said Salam confirmed that specifications for the René Moawad Airport project in Qlayaat would be issued on May 13, with work expected to begin within 90 days.
He expressed hope that Salam’s planned visit to northern Lebanon next week would include a clear development agenda for Akkar and the wider north.
