President of the Republic Joseph Aoun said Lebanon would soon launch tenders to operate Qlayaat Airport and study a railway linking Tripoli, Abdah and Akkar, stressing the need to prioritize development projects in the northern region.
Speaking during a meeting with heads of Akkar municipal federations and mukhtars at Baabda Palace, Aoun said Akkar has long been a reservoir for the military institution and deserved greater state attention. He also pledged to focus on establishing a military hospital and strengthening the Lebanese University presence in the area.
The president stressed the importance of national unity, saying no Lebanese faction had ever prevailed over another, warning that if the roof of the house collapses, it falls on everyone. He also highlighted the positive impact expected from appointing boards for Tripoli’s special economic zone, port and Rashid Karami International Fair.
Separately, Aoun met newly appointed National Council for Scientific Research head Assaad Eid, Financial Prosecutor Judge Maher Chaito, State Security chief Major General Edgar Lawandos, and congratulated 17-year-old Lebanese driver Christopher Feghali on winning the opening round of the Eurocup-3 championship in France.
