Prime Minister Nawaf Salam chaired a meeting at the Grand Serail to discuss conditions in the border town of Shebaa, in the presence of MP Firas Hamdan and a municipal delegation headed by Mayor Adam Farhat.
Following the meeting, Farhat reaffirmed Shebaa’s support for the Lebanese state and its institutions, while calling for assistance to help residents of Shebaa, the Arqoub villages and the Hasbaya region withstand mounting economic and living pressures.
He particularly urged the government to provide fuel assistance to households struggling with rising heating costs ahead of winter, noting that Shebaa lies more than 1,400 meters above sea level.
Farhat said Salam had pledged to work toward addressing the request.
The delegation also stressed the importance of implementing development projects to support Shebaa and neighboring border villages.
Describing the meeting as positive and productive, Farhat expressed hope that the discussions would lead to concrete measures enabling residents to remain in their communities and live with dignity despite the region’s difficult circumstances.
