Interior Minister Ahmad Hajjar praised the Internal Security Forces (ISF) for intercepting a vehicle carrying explosives at the Dahr El-Baidar checkpoint and arresting its two occupants, stressing the importance of preventive security measures in protecting national stability.
Speaking during a meeting of the Central Internal Security Council, Hajjar commended the vigilance and professionalism of ISF personnel, saying the operation demonstrated their ability to identify and neutralize security threats before they materialize.
He said officers had become suspicious of an overloaded grey Dodge Caravan on Monday and searched the vehicle, discovering a quantity of explosives. The driver and his passenger were arrested and referred, along with the seized materials, to the Military Police on judicial instructions.
Hajjar emphasized that establishing the full circumstances of the case was as important as the seizure itself.
He said Lebanese Army Intelligence and the ISF Information Branch would expand their investigations at the request of the Cassation Public Prosecutor’s Office to identify those involved and ensure accountability under the law.
Despite ongoing challenges, Hajjar reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies, the Army and the judiciary to maintaining a high level of security.
He instructed security forces to tighten inspections at checkpoints, intensify patrols and strengthen their deployment across the country.
The meeting also reviewed the general security situation and preventive measures to combat drug smuggling, trafficking and use, as well as theft and other criminal activities.
