MP Fouad Makhzoumi welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to lift air transport restrictions involving Lebanon, saying the move could pave the way for the resumption of direct flights between the two countries. He also commended President Joseph Aoun’s efforts to advance the initiative.
Makhzoumi said the decision could strengthen Lebanese-American ties, deepen connections with the Lebanese diaspora, and create new economic opportunities for Lebanon.
Lebanon must respond with concrete action, calling for Hezbollah’s disarmament, the state’s exclusive control over weapons and security and military decisions, and long-delayed financial and institutional reforms, Makhzoumi underscored.
The MP also called for an end to political obstruction, selective reform efforts, and the protection of narrow interests at the expense of the Lebanese people. He highlighted the need for a clear implementation of deadlines and genuine accountability for those blocking the country’s progress.
Makhzoumi concluded by emphasizing that the Lebanese people deserve a sovereign state that protects their rights, restores their bank deposits, and puts the country’s future ahead of the interests of any militia or foreign agenda.
