President of the Republic Joseph Aoun welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to revoke presidential directives imposing restrictions on air transport involving Lebanon, describing the move as a sign of confidence in the Lebanese state’s measures to ensure civil aviation safety and protect air traffic to and from Beirut.
In a statement, Aoun thanked Trump for the decision and the executive measures expected to follow and recalled that Trump had responded positively to his request during their meeting at the White House in July to lift restrictions on air travel between Lebanon and the United States.
President Aoun noted that Trump had subsequently instructed US officials to restore air traffic between the two countries and issued an immediate statement to US airlines calling for the resumption of flights to Beirut.
The Lebanese president also thanked US Secretary of State Marco Rubio for his continued follow-up on the matter, as well as all those who contributed to its completion.
The President stressed that Lebanon attaches the utmost importance to civil aviation safety, the security of Rafic Hariri International Airport, and air navigation. He added that the country continues to implement the necessary measures in accordance with internationally recognized standards to ensure passenger safety and strengthen confidence in Lebanon and its institutions.
He expressed hope that the decision would boost air transport, facilitate connectivity between Lebanon and the rest of the world, and pave the way for further cooperation between Lebanon and the United States across various fields.
