Public Health Minister Rakan Nassereddine chaired the first meeting of the newly formed Organ Donation and Transplant Authority to develop regulations governing organ donation and transplantation across the country.
Highlighting Lebanon’s low donation rates compared with other countries, he stressed that increasing donations could save lives, improve patients’ quality of life and significantly reduce healthcare costs.
He announced full coverage of organ transplant procedures by the Ministry of Public Health, dedicated budget allocations to support organ donation activities, and the establishment of the authority to prepare the necessary implementing regulations.
The ministry aims to create a sustainable framework that respects Lebanon’s religious and social considerations, prevents violations and ensures the proper organization of organ donation and transplantation.
Further meetings will be held to finalize the regulations as soon as possible.
