Yazbeck: Hezbollah betrays Lebanon at every opportunity

  • Wed August 5 2026 1:52 pm

Member of the Strong Republic Bloc, MP Ghayath Yazbeck, aid the Lebanese Forces remain committed to the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, arguing that the party would have been willing to cooperate with Hezbollah had it taken steps in that direction.

“Had we seen any move by Hezbollah toward implementing Resolution 1701, we would have extended our hand,” Yazbeck said in an interview with MFM, accusing the group of continuing to act against the principles of state-building.

Yazbeck also praised Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji for what he described as his work behind the scenes to protect the Foreign Ministry from Iranian pressure and “unpatriotic rhetoric.” He dismissed reports of tensions between Rajji and President Joseph Aoun, saying coordination between the two is “complete.”

“Hezbollah has lost its justification for keeping its weapons and dragging Lebanon into continued destruction,” Yazbeck said, accusing the group of contributing to Aoun’s election while simultaneously undermining the government in which it participates.

He described Hezbollah’s rhetoric as “illogical” and said it reflected the group’s declining influence.

“The destructive situation continues, and Hezbollah’s actions are not creating any deterrence whatsoever,” Yazbeck said.

He also praised the Lebanese state for insisting that Lebanon’s file remain completely separate from the Islamabad track, saying that Lebanon’s negotiations are instead proceeding through Washington and Rome.
