Salam leads Government meeting on South Lebanon, Port Blast probe
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam chaired the government’s regular ministerial meeting at the Grand Serail, with discussions focusing primarily on the return of residents to southern Lebanon.
Following the meeting, Information Minister Paul Morcos said Salam reviewed ongoing international contacts led by President Joseph Aoun and the prime minister, including through the ceasefire mechanism and with friendly and allied countries, to mobilize support for ending Israeli attacks, particularly the continued demolitions carried out by Israeli forces.
On the sixth anniversary of the Beirut port explosion, Morcos said Salam expressed hope that the indictment in the investigation would be issued within the coming months, noting that judicial obstacles had been removed under the current presidency and government while reaffirming respect for the independence of the judiciary.
Regarding negotiations, Salam said efforts were focused on securing successive Israeli withdrawals from Lebanese territory leading to a full withdrawal.
Morcos added that discussions on southern Lebanon also covered the ongoing damage assessment, rubble removal, road clearance, the start of bridge rehabilitation works from Wednesday, and the restoration of essential services, including water, electricity, telecommunications and other public utilities.
